Monday 12/17 Forecast: Could Get Nasty This Afternoon!

I hope you got to enjoy Sunday afternoon…because we’re back on the roller coaster with a downward trend! Here’s your forecast update for Monday, December 17, 2012!

TODAY: As we go through the day, expect showers and thunderstorms to form. If we get enough instability in the southern and southwestern counties (areas from Vevay to Dry Ridge and southwestward from there), I cannot rule out a strong to severe thunderstorm or two. The Storm Prediction Center has placed that area into a SLIGHT RISK of severe storms for today and tonight, with large hail the main threat and straightline winds as a secondary concern. As for temperatures, the model guidance came down and now pegs the high at around 55-57 degrees. I like that 55 number MUCH better than the 60 it showed on Saturday. Expect lows tonight down to the middle 30’s. Remember that last part…it comes back into play.

TUESDAY-WEDNESDAY: It looks like, except for our eastern counties where we may see a shower or two to start Tuesday, we’ll be dry in this period. Highs will be in the upper 40’s and maybe low 50’s.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: As we go into Thursday and Friday, we get the next storm system…and oh boy, talk about a change. We will have highs in the lower 50’s once again on Thursday. That is ahead of a cold front which pushes through in the afternoon…and then the bottom falls out. Remember what I said would be the case tonight? Friday’s highs AT BEST may be in those same middle 30’s, and we may have some snow showers around, especially the first half of the day. Stay tuned on that…what a way to kick off astronomical winter! (I might explain that in a future post.) Heck, the latest models try to make it quite windy around here Thursday into Friday just to make it more interesting! By Friday night, I wouldn’t be surprised to have lows all the way into the upper TEENS into the Cincinnati metro. A lot of that will be pending what happens with lake effect snows to our north. Again, stay tuned.

NEXT WEEKEND: It does look as if conditions dry out again, and it’ll be cold with highs in the middle to upper 30’s. Yikes. Lows will be in the lower to middle 20’s.
