Thursday 1/24 Forecast Update: Dry Today, Snow Tomorrow

TODAY: I expect skies to be cloudy, but I think we stay dry with highs around 26. The latest guidance keeps tonight dry, and I’ll go with them and have a low around 19.

FRIDAY: A winter storm will move across the Tennessee Valley. The track has locked in fairly well, but the amount of moisture is still in question. I think we’re all snow judging by the expected temperature profiles, but how much? Well, the model guidance isn’t promising…1-2″ for most is the call right now. I can’t rule out an isolated 3″ total but the better snows will be southeast of Cincinnati down toward Huntington. Lewis County may get in on 2-4″ but it’ll be close. My final call will be out tonight at some point. Highs on Friday struggle to the upper 20’s.

SATURDAY: We clear things out — but we also chill down a bit again! As I think there will at least be some snow cover on the ground at this point, I will go with 27 and a low Saturday night of 16.

SUNDAY/MONDAY: I don’t agree with the guidance on this one entirely. I do think Sunday is partly to mostly cloudy with a high close to freezing. However, Sunday evening precipitation moves in, and it should take the form of a wintry mixture of sleet, freezing rain and plain old rain before changing to the latter Monday. Because we will have precipitation around, I would expect highs Monday in the upper 30’s at BEST, and not the upper 40’s the guidance suggests. Lows will be in the upper 20’s Monday morning, which might cause problems. Stay tuned on this one…we are far from knowing exact impacts.
