WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY areawide until 5 PM this afternoon…
TODAY: We will be dealing with a double-barrel storm, with low pressure both north and south of the area. The better dynamics will be closer to these two systems, and consequently any higher amounts will be in those areas. The lesser amounts appear to be in the metro area and points west. Even here, however, a high snow to liquid ratio should bring snowfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches by this evening. Across areas from Hamilton to Wilmington to Maysville, Georgetown and West Union, you may see amounts of 1-3″, and I can’t rule out having an isolated 4″ total thrown in. As far as timing, snow will overspread the area this morning and continue through the afternoon before diminishing this evening. Highs today struggle to the upper 20’s and lows tonight fall to around 16.
SATURDAY: We clear things out — but we also chill down a bit again! As I think there will at least be some snow cover on the ground at this point, I will go with 27 and a low tomorrow night of 16.
SUNDAY/MONDAY: I don’t agree with the guidance on this one entirely. I do think Sunday is partly to mostly cloudy with a high close to freezing. However, Sunday evening precipitation moves in, and it should take the form of a wintry mixture of sleet, freezing rain and plain old rain before changing to the latter Monday. Because we will have precipitation around, I would expect highs in the lower 40’s and not the upper 40’s the guidance suggests. As we start the event, we will see lows in the upper 20’s, but it looks like there will be significant warm air advection so we’ll get above freezing sometime Monday morning. Stay tuned on this one…we need to get past today before we can ascertain anything in this forecast.
TUESDAY: I don’t know if we close in on 60, but certainly low to mid 50’s are possible as we should be rid of any snow cover. However, we will also have rain around the area as well.
